FerventMind App

Moving From iThoughts

FerventMind opens maps made in iThoughts (.itmz files) exactly as they were drawn, and never changes them. To keep working on one, you edit a FerventMind copy.

Open Your iThoughts Maps

Point the Library at your iThoughts folder: open the Library, choose Choose Folder…, and pick the folder that holds your maps (usually iThoughts in iCloud Drive). FerventMind only reads that folder. Every map in it appears in the Library, and search looks inside all of them.

An iThoughts map opens read-only, with a bar across the top that says iThoughts map · read-only.

Edit A Copy

Choose Edit a Copy in that bar. FerventMind saves a copy of the map as a FerventMind map (.fvmd) in iCloud Drive ▸ FerventMind, in the same subfolder it had in iThoughts, and opens it. The original stays exactly as it was.

  • The next time you open that map from the Library, its copy opens instead, and the Library lists the copy in the original's place.
  • On the Mac the copy opens in its own window; on iPhone and iPad the same screen switches to the copy.
  • The bar then reads Editing the FerventMind copy.

What Comes Across

Topics, notes, links, icons, images, attachments, relationships, boundaries, callouts, tasks, numbering, styles and canvases all come across. Your iThoughts styles (.itmz-style) can be imported as style sets too: see Styles, Palettes And Canvases.

Links Between Maps

Links that iThoughts made between maps (ithoughts:// links) work in FerventMind: tapping one opens the map it points to, as long as it is in your Library folder.

A Map Saved In The iThoughts Folder

FerventMind never writes to the iThoughts folder. A FerventMind map saved there opens read-only; move it to the FerventMind folder to edit it.
