Building A Map
Add topics with a key or a tap, then shape the map with relationships, boundaries, callouts, icons and images.
Add And Edit Topics
- Tab adds a child topic, Return a sibling, ⇧Return a sibling before, and ⇧Tab a parent.
- Space, F2 or a double-click edits a topic's text; ⌘Return finishes. A double-click on empty canvas makes a floating topic.
- On iPhone and iPad the bar at the bottom of the map has Add Child, Add Sibling, Edit Text, Color and Delete, with the rest under More. Touch and hold a topic to select several.
- The Return key's behaviour is a setting (Settings ▸ Editing ▸ Return key): it can finish editing, make a new topic, or make one when pressed three times quickly.
Move And Arrange
- Drag a topic to move it, and drop it on another topic to move it under that one. Hold ⌥ while dragging to copy.
- Auto Align keeps the map tidy as it grows. Choose Full, Balanced, Partial or Manual in the Map menu or the status strip at the bottom of the map.
- Topic ▸ Arrange aligns, distributes and balances selected topics. Snap to Topic lines up dragged floating topics.
- Fold a branch with . (period), and show a branch to a depth with the number keys (0 shows everything).
Connect And Group
- Relationship draws a line from the selected topic to the next one you tap or click.
- Boundary draws an outline around a branch. With several topics selected it makes a Group (⌘G).
- Summary (⇧⌘G) brackets the selected topics with a summary topic.
- Callout (⇧⌘K) adds a callout to a topic.
Select a relationship or group to change its line, arrows, colour and shape in the inspector.
Add Detail
- Icon adds an icon or SF Symbol; Image… adds a picture. Drop files or pictures on a topic to attach them.
- The inspector's Topic section holds the note, a link (a web page, a file, or a link to another map) and any Bible reference, which opens in the Bible app you choose in Settings.
- The Task section sets progress, priority, start and due dates, and numbering.
- The Look section sets colour, shape, text size and colour, capitalisation and the branch line.
- Topic ▸ Numbering numbers the subtopics, for example 1.2.3 or the Harvard outline style.
Focus And Filter
- Focus on Selected (⇧⌘F) dims everything outside the selected branches.
- View ▸ Filter shows or hides topics that match a filter, such as Priority 1, TODO or Due Soon. Edit Filters… makes your own.
- Find and Replace… (⌥⌘F) searches topic text, notes and links.
Undo
Every change can be undone with ⌘Z (Undo on iPhone and iPad). Maps save as you work.
