Named Text
Named text is wording you write once and use in several places in a map. Change it in one place and every topic that uses it changes too.
Make Named Text
- Select a topic and choose Topic ▸ Named Text ▸ New Named Text from Selection. Give it a name in the inspector, such as Point 1.
- To use it elsewhere, select another topic and choose Named Text ▸ Use ▸ and the name. Or type the name in braces, such as {Point 1}, in any topic.
- Map ▸ Repeated Text… finds topics that already say the same thing and makes them named text in one step.
Points And Recaps
Topics under a named text can be points: Named Text ▸ New Point After This adds the next one. Points are named by their place, Point 1, Point 2 and so on, and renumber when you move them. Insert Recap adds a topic that repeats the points so far.
Map Setup
Choose Map Setup (⌥⌘Y, or the Map, Outline and Map Setup choice) to see all of a map's named text in one place, with its levels and named styles. Select a row to edit it; press Tab on TEXT to add one. Esc goes back to the map.
In Templates
A template's empty named texts are slots. Start a map from the template, write each slot once, and every topic that uses it fills in.
Unlinking
To make a topic's text its own again, choose Unlink in the inspector; Unlink All releases every topic using that named text.
